If you query without a Top Level Domain (TLD), all TLD are queried, which you have chosen in your
configurations.
By default these are the Top 10 queried TLD.
A TLD is seperated (as you know it from your browser) by a dot (like
domain.tld). Don't query for subdomains like
www.
